The Rocket League Championship Series, also known as the RLCS, is the Psyonix funded Rocket League league. The competition began in Spring 2022 with its inaugural season giving an opportunity for the top North American and European teams to fight for their share of the $75,000 USD prize pool. The get-go World Championship was hosted in Los Angeles, California, with its reappearance during the Season 3 Earth Championship, between the starting time Finals taking place in Europe, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Season 3 of the RLCS introduced the 3rd region to join the league, Oceania. This therefore extended the number of spots for the Earth Championship from 8 teams to 10. The Oceania region League Play is managed by Throwdown Esports.

Rocket League Rival Series has been created prior to the outset of Flavour iv of RLCS as a second segmentation of the series. This promoted a widely requested structure of the championship serial, firstly giving a chance for RLCS teams to stay and secure their spot in the next season of the competition by their performance, and secondly supporting the lower tier teams bated from RLCS to give them an opportunity of beingness promoted to the top tier segmentation past their efforts and accomplishments.

Equally of Flavor 5, the RLCS is managed by Psyonix, instead of Twitch.[one]

Since the RLCS kicked off in 2016, the community played a big part in extending the prize pool of the competition. By Flavour viii, the current prize pool is higher than Flavor 1 by $985,000 USD.

Season 7 of the Rocket League Championship Serial introduced a 4th region to the division - South America[2]. The appearance of this very region was hugely requested and anticipated past the community and showcased worldwide prior to the announcement, such as during the Globe Showdown of Esports 4 and the four-calendar month course of the Rocket Street Grind Serial in late 2022 - sponsored by Psyonix - which was intended to exist the Due south American version of the Renegade Loving cup.

Season vii marked the starting time of a partnership between Psyonix and ELEAGUE featuring 'wide-ranging' content including a multi-part feature series on the RLCS on TBS Television.[3]

Gfinity Esports Australia took over equally the host of the Oceanic RLCS division in Season vii with the Gfinity Rocket League Oceanic Masters after Throwdown Esports hosted it since Flavour 3.[iv]

In Season viii, Ballsy Games has acquired Psyonix - the developer of Rocket League.[five] The Rival Series went through small changes in Season 8, equally the number of teams per region has extended from 8 to 10.[vi] Considering of this, a new stage has been added to the division with the Regional Playoffs. The Superlative iv teams from League Play play in a double elimination Page Playoff Subclass to decide the Peak ii teams from RLRS to advanced to the Promotion Playoffs. The eliminated teams along with the teams finishing 5th and sixth in League Play retain a spot in the next flavour of the division leaving the bottom four being forced to requalify.

The host of the Oceanic partitioning for Flavor 8 was transferred to LetsPlay.Live after Gfinity Esports Australia in Season 7.[7]

From Season nine onwards of the RLCS, the top tier segmentation hosts 10 teams per North America and Europe, expanding from 8.

Season 9 went through a uncontrollable state of affairs as the Globe Championship was forced to exist cancelled due to fears of the Coronavirus outbreak at the time of League Play.[8] This was the start flavor to be played entirely online.

In Season 10, RLCS moved away from the League Play format and bi-annual seasons. Instead, it turned into an open up event-based circuit format that culminates in an annual Rocket League Earth Championship.[9] The flavour introduced 3 unlike splits: Fall, Wintertime, Jump. With that, the Rocket League Rival Series has discontinued.

RLCS 2021-22 is the second RLCS season in 2021, crossing over into 2022. This flavor introduces the nigh major changes to the RLCS system all the same with more regions and an updated format. iii splits - Fall, Winter, Spring - each accept 3 regional events leading into an international major. Within all these events, each team collects points that will make up one's mind whether they will authorize for the Globe Championship or Earth Championship Wildcard.

History [edit]

Flavour 1 (Los Angeles, USA) [edit]

RLCS Flavor 1 was Rocket League's biggest tournament at the time, and there was a lot of hype surrounding many of the teams. FlipSid3 Tactics and Northern Gaming had come out on elevation in the ii EU qualifiers, while iBUYPOWER and Kings of Urban took home the NA qualifiers.

The commencement round would run across an even split between NA and EU, with underdog squad The Flying Dutchmen, who barely made it to the finals at all afterwards Supersonic Avengers came close to stealing their spot, managed to upset the NA #1 seed Kings of Urban. Meanwhile, iBP, who were playing with substitute 0ver Zer0 instead of star player Gambit, managed to overcome F3. Elsewhere, Exodus took down Mock-It in a 3-0 sweep while Northern Gaming as well managed to sweep Genesis.

This would pit KoU against F3, where KoU would crash out in last place with a 3-1 defeat. Meanwhile, Northern Gaming and iBuyPower progressed to the upper bracket finals, with iBP taking a 4-2 victory. NG were unable to recover and were browbeaten 4-1 past a F3 squad on a mission to power through the lower bracket and into the grand finals. When they arrived, they faced iBP once more. In an incredibly close series, iBP managed to close out a 4-ii victory and win the first flavour of the RLCS.

Season two (Amsterdam, Netherlands) [edit]

Europe saw many of the same teams qualify in one case once again, and with ane single league play instead of the ii qualifiers NG and F3 would take the top two spots (amid some controversy surrounding the rules of tiebreakers) and go out Mock-It, Precision Z, Cerise Centre and REUNITED (who were the former Supersonic Avengers team), to battle for the remaining two spots. In stage ane of the playoffs, Precision Z and Mock-Information technology would authorize for LAN, while Doomsee, Snaski and ELMP would once again be watching from the sidelines.

Northward America saw the world champions (now under G2 Esports and with 0ver Zer0 as a starter) struggle in league play, and they would eventually miss out on the playoffs altogether. Exodus (now under Orbit eSports) would take first place, with Kings of Urban (Now under NRG eSports) taking second. Genesis and Have 3 would take the two remaining LAN spots and would finish up meeting once again for the third-place playoff, where Genesis took the win while NRG trounce Orbit to have outset seed for North America once once again

The European teams would come out fighting as they took all four series' in the upper bracket, including an incredible reverse sweep from Mock-It against Orbit, who would then crash out of the tournament against Take 3. Another victory for Mock-It over F3 meant that they had to play against Have 3 again, who they so dispatched with a iii-0 sweep. After this series, F3 had some other Lower Bracket Final against Northern Gaming, which they won once again to put them upwardly against Mock-It. In the Thousand Finals, F3 managed to win dorsum-to-back series' to have home the title of Season 2.

Season 3 (Los Angeles, USA) [edit]

Flavour three saw the commencement inclusion of teams from Oceania, with the acme two teams from the Throwdown Rocket League Challenge joining the 8 teams from NA and EU. These teams ended up being Alpha Sydney and JAM Gaming. They would exist joined past an all-new Mock-It squad, a Flipsid3 team who barely edged past an inconsistent Resonant Esports, the surprise team of The Leftovers and Northern Gaming, who were heading to LA with their sub Turbopolsa as Maestro was busy with exams. The North American teams were NRG, who became the 3-time NA regional champions, Rogue, who had signed the Atelier team after finishing 2nd, Selfless Gaming and Denial Esports, who had knocked out fan favorites G2 Esports to secure their LAN spot.

As Blastoff Sydney fabricated history by winning their outset serial against Denial and NRG swept Northern Gaming to send them to the lower bracket, things started heating up as NG and The Leftovers began to brand their lower bracket runs. Later on The Leftovers had knocked out F3 and Northern Gaming swept Rogue, the two teams met and Northern Gaming came away with a clean sweep. After this they moved on to face NRG in the lower bracket finals, in order to make up one's mind who would confront Mock-It in the chiliad finals. NG would have the series 4-ane, leaving them with the job of getting the bracket reset against Mock-It, which happened in one case once again as NG won two tight series' in guild to get the world champions of Flavour 3.

Season four (Washington D.C., United states) [edit]

Season 4 saw the introduction of the RLRS, and was the terminal season in which teams could qualify directly to RLCS through the brutal play-in bracket. Notable teams who dropped to the new 2d partitioning included Fibeon eSports and The Leftovers, who were upset by Emotion (soonhoped-for Fidelity) and Aeriality (soon-to-exist Squad Undercover) respectively. In Due north America, the passionate Ghost Gaming surprised everyone past qualifying for the World Title, sweeping FlyQuest in the playoffs to secure their spot. Elsewhere, NRG Esports also swept their playoff opponents, their victims beingness Rogue. Withal, the bigger news was that - at long last - G2 Esports had finally qualified for LAN, with Kronovi making his first appearance since his Flavour one victory. Nevertheless, subsequently finishing second in league play G2 were heavily beaten by first Ghost so NRG, and therefore went to Washington as 4th seed. At the other stop of the table, a disappointing Renegades side joined Allegiance in the bottom two. Renegades won both of their matches with relative ease, securing their spot in Season 5, while Allegiance was sent to the Rival Series, not past the Fibeon side who they had upset previously, but former world champion Lachinio's Out of Style, who secured his return to the RLCS after two seasons away.

Over in Europe, information technology was upsets galore as Method and PSG Esports started to run abroad from the residue of the European teams such as Gale Force eSports, as both teams would end upward in the top 2, qualifying for LAN. exceL eSports, afterwards struggling in Season three and replacing Danzhizzle with ex-PENTA actor Pwndx, also surprised everyone as they avoided finishing in the lesser two. However, by far the biggest surprise was world champions Team Green-eyed, having replaced Maestro with their former thespian gReazymeister, finishing in the bottom two, with their Calendar week 5 victory over PSG (who were looking to go the first-always team to go 7-0) only serving every bit a alleviation. In the Promotion Tournament, Envy ended up surviving, with Team Secret beingness replaced by the Fnatic (ex-Leftovers) side who they had knocked into the Rival Series while yet playing as Aeriality.

Heading into the World Championship, Chiefs eSports Club (the former Alpha Sydney roster) as well as new boys Pale Horse eSports would join the European and N American teams, and this time the region would have their first major upset as Chiefs upset NRG and sent the Due north American veterans abode in last place, while Pale Equus caballus failed to win a unmarried game at LAN. In the upper bracket PSG and Method built on their strong seasons by defeating Cloud9 and NRG respectively, earlier Method took home a tight series to set up yet another big matchup with their rivals, Gale Force. This series proved to be one to remember, with Method keeping themselves alive by winning a lengthy game vi overtime before Gale Force took game 7 by a single goal. Elsewhere, in the lower bracket, no teams managed to brand a huge lower bracket run, with C9's three-friction match win streak being concluded by Method in the lower bracket finals (despite Squishy scoring an incredible ceiling shot), and G2 taking two series before falling to C9 and finishing 4th identify. This set up a rematch between Gale Force and Method, yet, Method was start to prove signs of fatigue, and Gale Forcefulness rolled over them in a 4-0 sweep, making them Earth Champions and giving Turbopolsa the title of the get-go histrion to win RLCS twice, too as the first player to win it back-to-dorsum.

Season 5 (London, UK) [edit]

Flavour 5 was the start flavour of the RLCS without Twitch Esports running the series alongside Psyonix, every bit well as beingness the first flavour without direct qualification into the RLCS.

In Northward America, the Big Three had begun to emerge as NRG, G2 and Cloud9 hands secured the first three LAN spots, with their biggest challenger ending upward existence Evil Geniuses. They ended up taking the quaternary LAN spot by defeating Rogue four-2 in the playoffs, seeing Chrome make his World Title debut despite having played in every single flavor of the RLCS up to that point. Over at the other end of the tabular array, Out of Way nigh bankrupt Squad Secret's unwanted tape by going seven-21 in games, and they were relegated along with fan favourites Counter Logic Gaming. They were replaced in the RLCS by FlyQuest, subsequently a strong debut flavour from Ayyjayy, and Allegiance who fought back from their previous relegation to defeat CLG in the final qualification match.

Across the Atlantic, Europe saw a resurgence from the previously-struggling Squad EnVyUs as they ended upward qualifying for LAN with their new star Eyeignite, however, the popular trios of PSG Esports and FlipSid3 Tactics missed out later on losing in the playoffs. Gale Strength eSports one time again took home the commencement seed for EU, and they were joined at LAN by the offensive powerhouses of Renault Vitality and complexity Gaming, all with unchanged rosters from the previous season. In the Promotion Tournament, exceL Esports' run in the RLCS came to an end, and Squad Cloak-and-dagger was sent back to the Rival Series once over again after i of the virtually exciting series in the history of Rocket League Esports, after which Servette Geneva eSports managed to sneak into the RLCS after two intense concluding games. Secret looked to have run out of steam every bit in the following series they were annihilated by Fnatic.

Afterward a long menses of waiting, Psyonix eventually announced that the World Championship would exist heading to the Copper Box Loonshit in London, to the excitement of many. What followed was ane of Rocket League's most heady events. The NA and European union teams were joined (in one case once again) by the Chiefs, likewise every bit a Tainted Minds team looking to go one ameliorate than final time around (when they were even so under Pale Horse). Team Dignitas had likewise bought out the heavy favorites Gale Force eSports prior to the tournament. The grudge matches started immediately, with Chiefs taking out EG in a close five-game series. The rest of solar day one had plenty of big upsets besides, as complication swept both TM and G2 to head into Solar day 2, and the hot streak of Renault Vitality was brought to an end by C9 after they were easily swatted bated. NRG knocked Dignitas downward to the lower bracket in a huge victory for the North American side, and compLexity marched into the Top 3 after taking out C9. In the lower bracket, Vitality's woes continued every bit they were beaten by EG and sent home in concluding place. Tainted Minds came so close to pulling off an unthinkable upset against Squad Green-eyed before they threw away a 3 goal pb in Game four then lost Game 5 to lose the series 3-two. EG's run of upsets continued as they took down G2 in a passionate Game 5 Overtime, and Team Envy'due south Oceanic problems continued as they were swept by the Chiefs - the kickoff time that an Oceanian team had made it to Day 3. On Day 3, Dignitas started to mount a lower bracket run as they swept EG and C9. The mean solar day seemed to be going by remarkably quickly as NRG too swept compLexity in the Upper Subclass Concluding before Dignitas would secure a rematch by chirapsia compLexity iv-2, knocking the Scandinavians out in third identify. The grand concluding saw Dignitas storm into a 4-ane victory (and a bracket reset), and it looked like information technology was over when the Europeans went 3-1 upwardly in the second series. However, thanks to some stunning goals past every NRG player they managed to take it to Game 7. What followed was truly incredible.

With x seconds left the scores were tied at 2-2. Afterwards a goalmouth scramble Team Dignitas looked to have scored the title-winning goal. North America sat in silence. After a big clearance from ViolentPanda, NRG had to carry the ball across the unabridged field without information technology hitting the ground. Afterwards a serial of passes, the ball eventually fell to the rookie jstn, who blasted information technology into the back of the internet prompting the roar of Team 104 and the remainder of the crowd. Despite all of that, NRG notwithstanding couldn't win in the end as Turbopolsa scored in Overtime to ensure that he became the kickoff player to win RLCS three times.

Flavour 6 (Las Vegas, Usa) [edit]

NA's sixth season of League Play was business as usual, with the Big Three hands reaching the World Championship. They were joined once over again by Evil Geniuses, with the merely real surprise being Rogue's relegation to the RLRS after losing to Splyce and Bread in the Promotion Tournament.

Over in Europe, things weren't so consistent, with Squad Dignitas standing their full dominance over the region. complication Gaming were relegated but ane season after finishing third in the World Title, FlipSid3 Tactics made their long-awaited return to LAN and Fnatic'south Promotion Tournament luck ran out as Red Reserve and Fell! rose through the ranks to take their place among the top viii of Europe.

The Globe Championship kicked off with upsets galore, every bit Evil Geniuses picked up NA's but victory against the Chiefs. Evil Geniuses picked up another acme-six terminate, whilst the Chiefs made history once again by being the first non-NA or EU side to accomplish the elevation 4 of the Globe Championship. In the lower subclass, Cloud9 began to mount a FlipSid3 Tactics-esque run, including a victory over F3 (despite an incredible pinch from kuxir97). Eventually, they reached the grand final confronting Dignitas, where they won in a dominant subclass reset victory, returning the RLCS trophy to NA for the outset time since iBUYPOWER in Season one.
